Playing around with different styles is so much fun – as long as you accept the fact that you’ll mess things up a bunch of times before you get it right. Honestly, in this case I didn’t really even “get it right.” But I got close! I’ve been a huge Simpsons fan for a very long time – I first started trying to mimic the Simpsons style in middle school, and every few years I find new characters or people […]
This is an old one, but it’s always held a special place in my heart just because it’s… weird. It’s just drawn very differently than what I usually draw. I made this for a magazine design class in college – we had an assignment to create a magazine cover for a fake magazine, so I invented the magazine “Philaddict” about the city of Philadelphia, and teased to the main feature – an imaginary interview with the cast of It’s Always […]
This guy is pretty good at music. Mumford & Sons may not be for everyone, and that’s ok. Mumford & Sons is for me, though. I first started listening to them back in 2009-2010ish, when I was in college. And for a good while, everything I drew was Mumford & Sons-related. I actually joined tumblr exclusively as a way to share my Mumford & Sons fan art. Was it weird of me? Yes. Yes, it was. But I loved their […]
Sir Patrick here is my latest piece of art! I’m preparing for this thing called Blobfest happening in my town on July 15. It’s a festival celebrating sci-fi and horror, named after the old horror movie The Blob which was filmed in town and features a giant red blob oozing out of a movie theater. So yeah, it’s pretty impressive. I got a booth to sell my art (!!), so I’ve been drawing all the sci-fi, fantasy, etc. stuff I […]
This here is probably the oldest drawing you will see on my website – circa 2009. This drawing was all about texture – I hadn’t used colored pencils much before trying this, and I wanted to see what I could do with them. It was a lot of fun – and it’s what made me obsessed with colored pencils. I use them constantly now, to the point where I know I need to start branching out and trying other things. […]
Another drawing from NBC’s Hannibal – I definitely tried to capture the creepy vibe here, with Will imprisoned in season 2. They even had him wearing Dr. Lecter’s infamous face mask, because he got framed for Hannibal’s crimes.
And now for something completely different. I am a “traditional” artist. I draw things pretty much the way they look. I am really… really bad at getting creative with stuff. But sometimes I force myself to try, and it doesn’t turn out half bad. This, I think is one of those instances. I love the show Pushing Daisies because it is magical and wonderful and good for the world. Everyone should watch Pushing Daisies. It’s the exact type of show […]
For people who haven’t seen Boardwalk Empire, this image is probably a bit confusing. Richard Harrow was a man who lost half of his face from an explosion in WWI, and was given a “mask” to cover the damage. Richard is one of my favorite fictional characters – he’s incredibly complex and sympathetic, but also kind of scary. I definitely recommend watching Boardwalk Empire if you get a chance, especially if you like shows set in different eras. It has […]
